National Board Members

President – Margurite Carter, mca5845634@aol.com

Margurite Carter was installed as the nineteenth president of Church Women United at the Common Council in July 2008. She has represented her region on the national board of CWU as the Southwest Regional Coordinator; on the California state level as the current Chair of the Finance Committee; Past Chair of the Literature & Resources Committee and member of the Communications Committee; and in her local CWU Unit as current newsletter editor and former corresponding secretary.

A high-energy woman, Margurite has been active in the church all her life. She is currently a member of Dominion Power Christian Church and until 2002, was a devoted member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as President for their Deaconess Board; Director of the Childrenís Ministries (on local, state and national levels); and Sunday School teacher. She has been a member of the Los Angeles Council of Churches; Los Angeles Director of Released Time Christian Education; and Chair of the Los Angeles Womenís Interfaith Committee. Margurite is a retired Financial Analyst (Northrop Grumman Aircraft Co.) after 30 yrs service.

Living into her vision that our ministry as Christian women is global in scope, she has been able to establish ministry programs to benefit children, teachers and church officers in Zambia and South Africa. She has received support in this effort from the Los Angeles Unit of CWU, Womenís Interfaith Committee and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The dream just keeps growing, as it has tripled since its beginning in 2005.

Vice President – Jenni Yeoh, jenniyeoh@juno.com

Jenni Yeoh is a gifted public speaker and workshop leader. She comes to the national Board of Church Women United through her service as Washington State president. Jenni has a long history working in the United Methodist Church where she has served as Local VP, District VP, District Nominations Chair; Conference Membership Chair, Conference Nominations Committee; UMW Conference Assistant Dean and Dean of Co-operative School of Missions, Regional School of Missions Teacher; Conference Episcopacy Committee; United Methodist Western Jurisdiction Ethnic Committee; Womenís Division Director, United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries (1992-2000), Member Executive Committee Member; Bylaws Committee; Chair Mission Education Committee; Vice Chair Reading Program; and Worship Leader in Officer Training. Jenni is a tireless volunteer and has devoted herself as a Mission Tour Leader to Gum Moon Community Center, San Francisco, California and to Katrina Relief in Louisiana.

Jane has been active in ecumenical work for 25 years. Her love for the ecumenical movement drew her to Church Women United and. In the past, she served on both the state and national CWU boards as well as CWU regional event planning groups. For more than 20 years, until her retirement in June 2009, Jane served as the Ohio Regional Director for Church World Service. While with CWS, Jane traveled extensively throughout the developing world, visiting projects in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Argentina, Paraguay, and many countries in Africa, including Rwanda, Kenya, Senegal, Niger and Guinea Bissau.

Malinda Waltz is a member of the United Methodist Church. She has most recently served as CWU East Central Regional Coordinator, and has served in many other capacities at the state and local unit levels for CWU Michigan, including state president, treasurer and financial secretary. She is a United Methodist certified Lay Speaker and Sunday School teacher, and has served her local church as assistant church treasurer among other duties. She served as a volunteer and an accountant for the Interfaith Hospitality Network, and worked with SHERRV & Equal Exchange as C0-Chair, since 1994, and is responsible for all bookkeeping. She has worked as an accountant for non-profit organizations since 1990, and has degrees and experience from Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan.
